The first of May is a day when Notable Things happen. The furthest planet in our galaxy was named, the United Kingdom was formed, Citizen Kane changed cinema forever.
In 2024, you can add “Weirdly is acquired by INSIDE” to that list.
Ok, maybe not a directly comparable event. And for you, our Weirdly users, you may notice no change at all. But for the team behind the software you use everyday, it’s the completion of a significant chapter in our story, so we’re taking a little minute to celebrate that today before skipping on to the next page.
When we launched ten years ago, startups were still mostly run by tech bros, financed by profiteers and staffed by a revolving door of educated, white, 23year old boys. Burnout was a staffing strategy.
We were determined there was a different way to grow a successful startup. Creating a culture built first on purpose and values alignment, striving to make sure the people in our team looked like the communities who were using our products. Designing policies and practices that supported families and flexible work and mental well-being.
We were lucky to find investors who shared that vision, staff who went all-in on doing things a bit differently and a customer base who cared about their candidates as much as we did.
We feel equally lucky to have now found an acquiring partner in INSIDE that also shares those fundamental values.
NZ-owned, INSIDE is a market leader in recruitment and consulting. Working with some of New Zealand's most-loved organisations large and small, in both public and private sectors. They’re known in the market for putting purpose first and for being refreshingly personal while not shying away from the bold moves that predict (and sometimes drive) huge shifts in the recruitment-industry. As founders, it’s exciting to hand the reins over to a team who are as dedicated to putting the “human” back into human resource sector as we’ve been over the past decade.
Weirdly’s software will continue to power recruitment for some of the biggest brands across Australia and NZ, with INSIDE’s expertise adding more depth to the services available to Weirdly users. As Dale puts it, this is not a goodbye, it’s a “watch this space”.
